Revealing the strange reason why MU refused to buy Haaland at a bargain price

MU had the opportunity to buy Haaland at a bargain in January, but Vice Chairman Ed Woodward refused, causing great regret.

During a period of 4 months, MU added Donny van de Beek, Alex Telles, Edinson Cavani and Facundo Pellistri to their squad.

The purchase of 18-year-old winger Amad Diallo from Atalanta was also confirmed on the last day and will officially join from January.

However, MU fans still feel the absence of an important deal, such as the central midfield position that needs consolidation or the top goal Jadon Sancho.

Coach Solskjaer has long asked to bring Sancho to strengthen the right-wing attack position, but Ed Woodward and the rest of the board did not accept Dortmund’s price of £ 108 million for this player.

In these difficult financial times, it is understandable that Woodward refuses to pay a 9-figure payment. However, this is not the first time he has been unable to make an important signing for Solskjaer.

Back in January, Solskjaer believed that he had secured his fellow striker Erling Haaland from RB Salzburg for € 20 million, but the transfer proposal was strangely rejected by Woodward.

According to ESPN, the executive vice president of MU refused to bring the Norwegian star to Old Trafford because he had to pay a commission fee to the agent and the player’s agent demanded that the release clause be inserted into the contract.

Dortmund then joined and won Haaland for 20 million euros, accompanied by a 75 million euro release clause as required – though the clause did not go into effect until 2022.

The decision of the German club to obey the wishes of Haaland has brought great benefits to them when the Norwegian striker continuously shines. In his first 23 games for Dortmund in all competitions, he scored 21 goals.

Imagine Haaland has scored such goals in the MU shirt with a bargain price of 20 million euros, the fans of “Red Devils” cannot help but regret.
