Solskjaer commended the Cavani effect on young players

Coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had a press conference ahead of MU’s trip to West Ham in Round 11 of the Premier League.

This will be one of the first Premier League matches to welcome fans back to the stadium and Solskjaer is waiting for it.

“I am looking forward to the return of the fans, wait a long time. However, it is important that my players use the energy that the spectators bring, with the next game I want them to listen to the home team fans to create the motivation to keep them quiet. Football cannot be complete without fans, I hope Old Trafford will soon bring fans back”, said Solskjaer.

Regarding the situation of MU forces, the Norwegian coach said that Marcus Rashford, despite having pain in his shoulder, had to leave the field in the defeat of PSG, but he could play normally. “Marcus practiced this morning even though he didn’t do it hard. I hope everything goes well tomorrow morning so I can register him. Luke Shaw is not ready, we are fine”, he revealed.

MU won 4 consecutive matches in the arenas before losing to PSG and that defeat made MU unsure of the ticket to pass the Champions League group stage, causing question marks about the performance of the “Red Devils” and Solskjaer himself reappearing on the newspaper face. However, Solskjaer did not show too much concern, he said that there are matches where the win-lose gap is too close and the last defeat to PSG is not something serious.

“Football is a human game and everyone has their own life, each day will have a bittersweet story. If you look at our record of 40 games in the Premier League, we can say that MU has been very stable. I think we played PSG better than West Brom, but one we won and one we lost, there were results that we couldn’t control and completely adjusted”, commented Solskjaer.

Edinson Cavani played very well to help MU upstream to lower Southampton in the previous round and Solskjaer said he was also creating a positive effect off the pitch. “Last season we were the youngest team in the Premier League but this season has added experienced players. Edinson is a very experienced man, he is a versatile midfielder and not only does it impart a reasonable way to live and extend his career to younger players ”, Solskjaer praised the Uruguayan striker.

While signings such as Cavani, Telles and Van de Beek have gradually been played, two youngsters Facundo Pellestri and Amad Diallo have one not kicked and the other has to start the new year. “Pellestri practiced with the first team and played quite well in the reserve team. We think now will be the time to give him the chance to play, but things will be gradual. Diallo is doing pretty well at Atalanta and we are quickly getting a work permit, he will be a significant addition in January”, Solskjaer revealed.

What will the squad be like if Saul Niguez is recruited?

MU have contacted Saul Niguez as a top transfer target this summer. If successful, Solskjaer coach can be classified into 3 different options.

Saul with diagrams 4-3-3

MU has operated this diagram regularly since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took over and it’s easy to understand why Saul will be given a position in that system.

Atletico Madrid midfielder will then play the role of a left midfielder, becoming an ideal element to cooperate with Paul Pogba, while Bruno Fernandes is free to play more attacking.

Saul will need to perform a lot of defensive work if deployed in such a scheme, especially when this squad is too prone to attack.

Solskjaer has had a lot of experience with this scheme since he was playing under Sir Alex Ferguson. So, he can test it out for himself if he has an outstanding right-winger in the summer.

MU currently has many options on the left of midfield, but it’s fair to say that no one else has the quality defensive ability like Saul.

At Atletico Madrid, coach Diego Simeone frequently uses this squad in major European Cup matches with Saul deployed on the left. It seems to be a suitable choice for MU when meeting strong opponents.

This is a scheme that Solskjaer often likes to switch to during difficult matches and it is also suitable for Saul.

The Spanish midfielder’s flexibility helps him transform into a left-winger or move into play as a central midfielder.

With one more center-back in the squad, Saul will reduce his defensive responsibilities in midfield. Therefore, this scheme may suit you best out of the 3 options on the squad.
